THE CHALLENGE
Create a brand for a mobile app used to assess player abilities for youth sports teams that removes bias and promotes fairness. Bottom line: make playing baseball, soccer and hockey fun for the kids and fair to parents and coaches.

OUR SOLUTION
Gate worked with Scout Hat to build the brand from the ground up. From naming and brand messaging, to logo and digital development, Gate and Scout Hat have worked together since the beginning, creating business cards, sales materials, a website, and even the first version of a mobile app.

We took those tools on the road for early tryouts for 3 different PA leagues. We had coaches and parents use the app, and we aggregated all the data to score each players performance. We generated custom reports from the data and shared them with coaches and families alike. Everyone loved the experience. Coaches felt less burdened and parents felt more focused and valued in the entire process. More importantly, the kids had a great time knowing they were being assessed more fairly.

SIMULTANEOUSLY BUILDING A BRAND AND CHANGING THE GAME IN YOUTH SPORTS

The Scout Hat logo took its inspiration from a combination of things. We wanted it to feel inlcusive and fun for not only parents and kids in youth sports, but for the coaches and broader league managers. Assessment tools have traditionally been biased and skewed toward the better players. The logo had to combat that stereotype. Using a heavy rounded typeface, the cap and creating an actionable tagline, we empowered users to participate as equals. The brand made youth sports assessment fun again. And fun is the name of game.
